Barack Obama Landslide
Congratulations to Barack Obama – US President #44
on a Landslide of Historic Proportions!
Barack Obama has swept to victory in the US presidential race, and promised change and a new dawn of leadership.
With the last few votes still to be counted, Obama looks set to earn 364 electoral college votes, with only 174 falling to McCain. In the end, Obama claimed 28 states compared to McCain's 22, in what some are calling the most “decisive victory for a Democrat since the 1960s.” At the time of this writing, with more than 60 million votes, Obama has over 52% of the popular vote, with McCain less than 47%.
The 47-year-old, who will be the first black leader of the US, spoke after sweeping a series of key battleground states for a landslide victory.
"It's been a long time coming but, because of what we did on this day, in this election, at this defining moment, change has come to America," he said
Ohio joined a national landslide in electing the 47-year-old U.S. senator from the nearby Great Lakes state of Illinois, and turning back the presidential aspirations of Sen. John McCain of Arizona. "The workers in Ohio have hope rather than despair to look forward to with a president that realizes that the working-class families have suffered long enough and need help and support," said Mr. Rothenbuhler, who is regional head of the Ohio Carpenters Union.
"We witnessed from Obama this year
something unique in American politics:
He took down a political machine without raising his voice. " Peggy Noonan, WSJ
